He began his career with Norwich City, where injuries restricted him to just 83 appearances in five years. He did enough, however, to gain international recognition from the Republic of Ireland and attract interest from a number of top clubs. O'Neill was eventually snapped up by Middlesbrough in March 1999, and his capture was generally hailed as a bargain purchase by Bryan Robson as the player had been rated at 4 million two years earlier. Keith is a versatile player capable of playing striker, left wing, left sided midfield and even wing-back. His best position is generally considered left wing though he has performed impressively up front since joining Boro. His stay at Boro was a short one as Bryan Robson was replaced as manager and new boss Steve McLaren allowing him to move.
